I was thinking of trying to hold a reunion barefoot tournament in hopes of getting some of the old blood back into the scene. I have thought about holding a combined three event and fun tournament together.

Some of the ideas that I have thought about would be for the fun portion to include a tumble off, a starts event, a best slide event, etc… even allowing boom runs to encourage guys or gals that have not been active footers for sometime to participate. I have a few ideas about a handicap system but still trying to figure out the details about what determines a persons handicap and how it would be applied to help a skier's scores.

Does anyone think it is a good idea? Would you participate? How about some ideas to help me figure out a handicap system. I have spoken to some of the old footers from the South Central Region and there is definitely some interest.

We have a private ski community site that is centrally located with two lakes that would accommodate a combined three event / fun tournament. If there is enough interest, I'd like to put something together next summer.

Ted,

You might wanna call or e-mail Kevin Towers as he did a real nice job getting some old timers to come to the Eastern Regionals this year. PM or e-mail me if you want his phone #. He's also on this board but I'm not sure of his user name but if you do a search using his name you'll find it.

Mike Holt used a handicap system at a tournament in the Southern Region this year that I am sure he would share.  He is "Mike Holt" on the forum.  Kevin is "Kevin.Towers" but doesn't frequent the forum very often.

Dear Bareftrz

This year at our regionals that my wife and I hosted , we spent a couple weeks contacting
people and had those people contact more people and it was a huge success, for multiple
reasons not just that , but I can assure you we will have many more next year. I billed them as THE OUT OF RETIREMENT SKIIERS !! We had about 8 or 9 of them , including
the legend ( John Cornish ) !! At the tourn. I kept saying on the PA system , that next year will be bigger and better ( and it WILL ) EVERBODY HAD A BLAST!!
Here are my #'s
724-348-6104 (H)
724-258-0150 (W)
724-350-0354 (C)
Call if you have any questions
I allready have comittment for some RETIRED SKIIERS for next year
Some are accually training again!!
Thanks
Kevin Towers

This year's Southern Regional had Peter Fleck and Don Mixon Jr. show up and compete.  DMJ put up the best slalom score of the tournament if I recall better the KSO's.

Bareftrz, I think your idea is a good one and I bet that a lot of old timers would show up if invited.  I know that Mike Holt is trying to get more of the retired guys to come out and ski at the Regionals next year.  It is fun to see them ski and amazing at how well they can ski even with little or no training time.

Well I have received some feedback about the Re-Union Tournament that I am thinking about having but would like to know how many people would be interested in attending.

We have a private two lake ski site located in Maize Kansas and have hosted the South Central Barefoot Regionals two years and have also hosted the 3-event Midwest Regionals for two years. We have also hosted an annual barefoot tournament since 1980.

The lakes are about 2250' long and run east and west. The prevailing summertime winds are from the south so we can ski pretty much any time.

As Keith St. Onge said "it was the smoothest water I had ever witnessed with 30mph cross winds!  You can't  barefoot in KS unless you build your own private ski lake".

No the wind doesn't always blow that hard, but one day when Keith was here for his clinic last summer it was really windy and we were still able to foot both on the boom and long line.

We will have a Sanger 377 Super Scorpion and a Sanger 8.1 as the tournament towboats and both are equipped with Super Fly High's.

If you are interested let me know and help spread the word to some of the footers in your area so that they can dust off their wetsuits and come out for what is sure to be a good time.

Here is a link to our club site to see the lakes and area information.
